A statement by the philosopher and writer María Zambrano provides us with the key into the world of Sacra: “man/woman is the being who suffers his/her own transcendence”. This is because Sacra is a journey through life, human existence, that posits the need to transcend it if we are to vanquish oblivion and death.

Sacra encompasses the songs and religious rituals of a number of peoples and cultures, languages and epochs, exploring the long process of the sequence of experiences from the instant the soul, vital energy, gives up its ethereal condition and takes material form in a body to the moment it re-encounters its immateriality after the body dies. A cycle that ends and begins in another time, another life and another skin.

The Otra Danza company, directed by Asun Noales, is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a show presented by Noales in 2004 and which has been renewed for the occasion. This reconstructed Sacra bears the hallmark of this company from Valencia: the use of light to draw volumes and create atmospheres, a sound space that envelops the piece with delicacy, and a choreographic work that reaches the heights of excellence.
