Achterland

Created in 1990, Achterland is a major choreography in the work of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, a turning point in her career. For the first time, the artist gave the musicians a central and active position on the stage; And, also for the first time, she incorporated men to her company, until then formed only by women. Thus, the unusual combination of the music of György Ligeti and Eugène Ysaÿe and the subtle as well as energetic movements of the dancers gave rise to a suggestive, magnetic creation, a pure dance piece that, twenty years after the last performance, revive the stage in a new production.

Rosas, a company founded by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker in 1983, carries out a rigorous exploration and articulation of the movement. Throughout the years, the team has investigated the choreography in relation to other compositional forms, such as music, geometry, visual arts or text.
