The multidisciplinary Japanese artist Hiroaki Umeda has developed what he calls a “choreographic system”, a method of movement that he applies to dance. In this piece, he fuses it with hip-hop inspired by three female stars of Japanese hip-hop, and he brings his own relationship between calm and chaos to the stage.

When examining a living substance at microscopic level, there are virtually no perceptible limits between human and non-human bodies. Hiroaki pursues this belief, a fascination with the human body as an integral part of nature, in which there is no distinction between it and other living beings. He explores the choreography of cells, molecular forms and organic synthesis, making visible to humans another world of movement, light and sound. For Umeda, choreography is not restricted just to the human body but to everything that is capable of creating movement.

Hiroaki Umeda, a figure on the Japanese avant-garde scene, is multidisciplinary, fusing choreography with sound and visual creation. Since the foundation of his company S20, his choreographies have toured the world, acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. His work emerges from a holistic artistic methodology, with digital work, which incorporates in the choreography’s physical aspects like dance, but also optical, sonorous, sensory elements and components of space and time.
