An artist with her own conception of flamenco aesthetics brings to the stage a choreography steeped in negritude that reflects on the search for happiness, conflicts and the asymmetrical nature of humanity. Federico García Lorca in Poet in New York, the struggle of opposites, Leopold Sedar Senghor's thoughts on negritude and the figure of the singer Nina Simone are all present in the choreography.
María Pagés is one of the great bailaoras [flamenco dancers], choreographers and artists of flamenco and contemporary dance. Recipient of the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2022, the artist created her company in 1990 in order to promote a way of understanding flamenco in which the more traditional aspects of the genre are approached from a contemporary perspective, with no fear of a mixture of artistic languages and with the utmost commitment to the world in which we live.
