Hip-hop confronts the forces of nature in a show by Mourad Merzouki that proposes a new poetics of space in which a sweet wind, the Zephyr, blows.
The most beautiful journey is the one we haven't taken yet; there is always an island to explore. In this show, a nautical competition symbolises both the idea of the journey and the confrontation of human beings with the forces of nature, based on the essence of life at sea: a melee with the wind, an impalpable matter that is made visible through dance. We artists or explorers, are in search of spaces of freedom, carrying our dreams and our determination in our backpacks.
Käfig bears the hallmark of one of the leading figures in hip-hop since the 1990s, an artist who combines dance with disciplines such as circus, but also with martial arts, fine arts, video and live music. Co-creator of the Accrorap company, in 1996 Mourad Merzouki formed his own company, with a name that means "cage" in both German and Arabic, an allusion to his desire not to remain stuck in a single discipline.
