The Dansa Metropolitana family programme is back to fill theatres and streets with excitement, imagination and movement, through pieces designed to share dance across generations. These shows invite audiences to discover new worlds, reflect and be surprised by the body and its movements.
Here are the family shows for this edition:
La nit de Sant Joan (Antonio Ruz, Gran Teatre del Liceu - Fundación Juan March)
This vibrant and contemporary reinterpretation of the classical musical celebrating the magic and rituals of the shortest night of the year will be on at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu as part of the festival on 7 and 8 March.
El nostre refugi galàctic (AzkonaToloza)
This interplanetary adventure combining dance and science fiction to imagine possible futures from the perspective of children will be on at the Mercat de les Flors over three weekends in Barcelona: 7 and 8 March, 14 and 15 March, and 21 and 22 March.
Una ciutat d’ombres (laSala & Com un llum)
This visual and poetic family show that plays with shadow and light to construct an imaginary city full of mysteries will be on at the Sala Miguel Hernández in Sabadell on 8 March at 11.30 am.
This energetic and interactive show bringing urban culture and breakdance to little ones with plenty of humour and rhythm will be on in two cities taking part in the festival: at the Teatre Auditori in Granollers on 8 March, and at the Sala Miguel Hernández in Sabadell, with two morning shows on 22 March.
Cosa. Intervenir un cuerpo (Macarena Recuerda Shepherd)
This delicate and surprising piece that explores the body as a work of art, sparking curiosity and a critical perspective among children, will be on at the Teatre L’Artesà del Prat on 15 March.
This theatre and dance show focusing on the invisible stories of anonymous people and inviting reflection on identity and community will be on at the Àtrium Viladecans at midday on 15 March.
Per què un arbre és una gallina? (MA Compagnie-Marc Lacourt)
This playful and imaginative piece that transforms everyday objects into surprising universes through movement and stage play will be on at the Teatre Zorrilla in Badalona, with two sessions on 15 March.
Alícia i la dansa de les mil meravelles (PAR en Dansa)
This contemporary reinterpretation of Alice’s journey to a world full of fantasy, rhythm and colour will be on at the LaFACT | Factoria Cultural de Terrassa, with a single show on 21 March.
ONA (Laura Alcalà Freudenthal (LaSúbita))
This show for young children, inviting them to explore movement and seascapes through their senses, will be on at the Atrium Viladecans on 22 March, at 10.30 am and 12 noon.
Piccolo circ de fil (Antonella D’Ascenzi)
This delicate circus and dance universe created with threads and subtle gestures that spark the imagination of young children will be on at the Auditori de Sant Ildefons de Cornellà, at 12 noon.
La gata que volia canviar la història (Thomas Noone Dance)
This danced fable about courage and the power to transform the world, inspired by a traditional story and designed to move young and old alike will be on at the Teatre-Auditori Emma Vilarasau in Sant Cugat at 6 pm.
