PRESENTATION

This year marks the ninth edition of the Dansa Metropolitana Festival, when dance once again fills theatres, civic centres, streets, squares and iconic spaces across twelve cities in the metropolitan area. For two weeks, dance can be experienced and shared everywhere, fostering community, transformation and collective encounter.

Àgores, the project framing this year’s festival, takes place in public spaces and draws its name from squares as sites of gathering, dialogue and the collective exercise of freedom. It invites us to turn these squares into meeting points where we can dance, learn and celebrate what unites us together, spaces where everyone can participate at their own pace and enjoy dance collectively.

The year 2026 is also symbolic, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the restoration of freedoms in our country, a milestone that in culture signalled the beginning of a new era with the birth of the Grec Festival and the Teatre Lliure. Dansa Metropolitana carries on this legacy by championing dance as a tool for expression, reflection and shared freedom and inviting audiences to explore these spaces through a diverse programme that includes major national and international productions alongside new local creations, opening doors to fresh perspectives and new ways of dancing.

Dansa Metropolitana 2026 seeks to make dance accessible to all, allowing everyone to find their place within this broad landscape of offerings. Come and share movement and make this festival your own, because dance thrives when it is experienced together.
