Calentamiento
The concept of warming up —stretching, getting energised and stimulating the body— runs through flamenco dancer Rocío Molina’s new work, co-directed with Pablo Messiez. With humour and insight, she plays with the concept of an infinite beginning: a warm-up before the warm-up, a start that resists starting and, at the same time, defies death by affirming the desire to live. The piece moves in circles, seeking solace in calm, work, pleasure, or pain, alone or in company, meaning that the party’s never over.
Rocío Molina, a choreographer and flamenco dancer, has created her own unique style, reinventing flamenco through technique, research, and risk-taking. Awarded the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts, the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale, and multiple Max Awards, she is one of Spain’s most internationally recognised artists, performing at venues and in cities such as the Barbican, Avignon, New York, Berlin, and Tokyo.
