La nit de Sant Joan
As part of the LiceuAprèn family programme, La nit de Sant Joan is a dance production choreographed by Antonio Ruz, and inspired by Robert Gerhard’s original ballet. Through a symbolic and imaginative staging, Ruz weaves together elements deeply embedded in local culture—such as fire, sardana dances, castells (human towers) and figures from the bestiary—to create a lively experience rich in tradition, energy and creativity for audiences of all ages.
Drawing on Gerhard’s second ballet, composed in 1939 with set design by Joan Junyer and text by Ventura Gassol, the production offers a contemporary reinterpretation of this previously unperformed work. Popular imagery is translated into movement in a dynamic choreography that celebrates the most magical night of the year through music and dance.
