L’hereu Riera

A solo dance and performance piece exploring an ongoing dialogue between the primary language of traditional Catalan dance and various contemporary dance techniques. Melody and folk dance appear in as a vehicle to reinterpret traditional practices from new perspectives, culminating in the individual’s reclamation of what is traditionally inherited. L’hereu Riera, premiered at Fira Mediterrània 2022, is a ritual inviting reflection on Catalan popular imagery and its connection to contemporary society. Is there room for reconciliation?

Dancer Pere Seda, the heart of Cia. L’Esbord, has been involved with traditional dance since age of three with Esbart Maragall de Barcelona. He graduated in Contemporary Dance from the Professional Dance Conservatory of the Institut del Teatre at age 22 and has performed professionally in several companies and projects, including the award-winning Oblivion by Cia. Silvia Batet. As a choreographer, he began his career in 2019 with projects like NUeS, premiered at Ésdansa Festival, always with a focus on roots. L’Esbord is a platform for professional exploration of Catalan traditional dance. Bridging the legacy of folk ensembles with a new perspective on roots: diverted, unproductive, sterile and rough. Without any transmission, yet still necessary. The productions of L’Esbord include L’hereu Riera, premiered at Fira Mediterrània de Manresa in 2022; Autoodi, premiered in July 2023; and Folk as queer, 2024, at the Obrador d’Arrel of Fira Mediterrània de Manresa.
