Giselle, a young peasant girl, falls in love with Albrecht, unaware that he is a nobleman betrothed to another woman. Upon discovering the deception, she dies of despair, and her spirit joins the Wilis, vengeful ghosts. Consumed by guilt, Albrecht visits her grave and confronts the supernatural world.
