veline repertoire is a choreographic studio that reinterprets the dances of Italian TV showgirls, transforming their cheerful yet objectified image into a lesbian romance. Revisiting their repertoire from the 1990s to the present day, the dancers break away from the camera’s gaze and dance for one another: imitation turns into seduction, and Berlusconian femininity reveals desire and resistance.
Choreographer Gaia Pellegrini explores intimacy, sexuality and femininity as a spectrum, questioning misogyny and objectification. Together with Rebecca de Toro, Shauna Fischer, Giulia Parenti and Alice Minervini, she constructs a transfeminist imaginary of the post-Berlusconi era.
The company offers a post-function colloquium on Saturday, March 21st, hosted by the Altraitalia Association.
