Fiction presented as a false documentary that deals with the relationship between education, society and violence, situating the audience in the story of a teenage girl who commits a violent act at her high school.

Cry babies is a speculative fiction presented as a false documentary that tackles the relationship between education, society and violence. In a world highly infantilized and sugar-coated, but at the same time extremely digitalized and subject to control, someone breaks the rules: a teenage girl is commits a violent act at her high school. What leads a young girl to do something so barbaric? How responsible is the family, the school, technology, the media, the politician who cuts back on education, society, or she? The show situates us in the trial of this young girl where, through the presentation of evidence, we are shown the case from different points of view using multiple languages. The dramatic action places us inside the mind of the girl through her diaries, which the performers will interpret and expound to the audience, emphasizing the different factors that pushed the girl to violence. How should we as a society deal with juvenile violence?

The Followers Co. is a collective company of young people from Barcelona created in 2018 by Andrea Monje and Laura Riera. Their first show was Welcome to Siri’s Party, presented in the form of a work in progress at the Rose Bruford Theatre (2018, London) and the 2019 Croquis Festival (Sala Beckett). In 2019 the production was awarded the Bonnescèniques grant (Centre de Cultura de Dones Francesca Bonnemaison) and it was premiered at the Antic Teatre in Barcelona. The show is currently on tour. Cry babies (Kinètic-Parc Sandaru and coproduction with Antic Teatre and Dansa Metropolitana) is their second production, in which they decide to take a step further in the search for new languages and the creation of contemporary discourses.
