El nacimiento de la bailarina vieja

The central character of this work is a fictitious ballerina who was born old. This creature moves around the stage and trains to perform wonders she will never be able to do with a body that has always been old and tired. For all the adversities and contradictions, the old ballerina knows she has a distinct advantage over the other young creatures: her limits are part of her own essence.

The visual aspect of the work comes from the study and filming of decaying organic material, a methodically controlled process that transforms the decomposition into a landscape the ballerina will dance in.

Elena Córdoba is a dancer and choreographer. Her work is constructed from a detailed observation of the body, the cornerstone and subject matter of her work. Her way of understanding creation has led her to take part in and coordinate research groups on anatomy and the human act of dancing, constantly asking herself why human beings have the need and capacity to dance.
