Pictures at an Exhibition is a famous suite of 15 pieces of music composed by Mussorgsky to pay tribute to Viktor Hartmann, an architect, draughtsman and keen painter who was a close friend of the composer’s. The score was inspired by the posthumous exhibition of Hartmann’s works at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.

While playing with new technologies and contemporary aesthetics, this intriguing show created by Roser Muñoz and Joan Boix takes the form of a guided tour of a museum while wearing a virtual reality headset. The use of video projections with real images and animations, and the sudden emergence of characters from the screen in order to dance on stage add to the magic and emotion in a creation that leads children into the fascinating world of ballet.

The Centre de Dansa de Catalunya is a centre of excellence in the teaching of classical dance in Catalonia. Roser Muñoz and Joan Boix, a prima ballerina and premier danseur respectively with international companies for two decades, convey in their classes the respect and love afforded by dance, as well as rigour in the preparation of shows, which are meticulously planned down to the smallest detail.
