Catalina

Iniciativa Sexual Femenina

Share

Catalina is the first piece from the Iniciativa Sexual Femenina [Female Sexual Initiative] group, whose show works on the sexual repression we experience in life in general and in dance in particular, and how we give and receive pleasure.

Catalina isn’t partying: it's a party in itself. Catalina breaks loose and gets the others to break loose, through good and bad kissing. Facing ‘Madame Bovary soc jo’, which she cannot stand, Catalina declares ‘La rumba soc jo’, like Andrés Caicedo in his novel ¡Que viva la música!, which told us to lick our hair, just as Lectura fácil, from the Cristina Morales company, told us to knock against the edge of the table. Catalina sins against dance and literature but atones for its culture with its shamelessness.”

The Iniciativa Sexual Femenina group was created in 2017 in the Can Vies self-managed social centre, in Barcelona, with the aim of approaching contemporary dance from a feminist, libertarian and anti-academic perspective. Its members are Élise Moreau (France, 1992), Elisa Keisanen (Finland, 1988) and Cristina Morales (Spain, 1985).
