The inauguration of Dansa Metropolitana 2021 is constructed around two short pieces that speak of women and mechanization in relation to the world of textile factories, so numerous in Catalonia.
The inaugural session will begin at 7 pm with the presentation of an excerpt from the show Máquinas Sagradas (Sacred Machines) by Juan Carlos Lérida, accompanied by the cantaor Pirata. A piece that takes the machine as an element of creation and connects the rhythm of this machine with that of the body through flamenco. A dialogue between these two languages influenced by the impressive setting of the outside courtyard of the Museu Nacional de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya (MNACTEC) with its chimney in the background.
After this excerpt from Máquinas Sagradas the audience will be invited to go inside the museum, where the actress Teresa Sánchez will read a short text written by the cultural journalist specializing in dance Barbara Raubert, which will introduce the audience to the world of women and their importance in the textile factories of Catalonia.
This reading will connect with the second dance piece: the second movement of the show LUAº by the company Ancorae Dansa. In this proposal five women construct a dance of cogwheels and embroidering, moving to the rhythm of aerial tangos and surrounded by the machinery in the MNACTEC, in the desire to take flight in a fertility rite.
This second short piece will end the inaugural session, and the activities of the festival will commence.
Inaugural session. Admission with invitation.
This show is part of the Filatures program.
