Elkarrizketa Ilunak

Metamorphosis Dance

Share

Directed and choreographed by Igor Bacovich and Iratxe Ansa, the show takes us to a dark stage, lit only by fluorescents that determine our view and the movement of the performers.

Elkarrizketa Ilunak (Conversations in the dark) is an innovative production in which Metamorphosis Dance investigates, through choreographic composition, the possibility or impossibility of communicating. What happens when two people converse in the dark? By decontextualizing a conversation, the type of message changes and in the proposal by Igor Bacovich and Iratxe Ansa the dynamic actions and reactions of conflict, affection and anxiety are expressed non-verbally, physically and bodily.

Metamorphosis Dance have a premise: “the most important thing is not what you do, but how you do it.” Their way of understanding dance crystallizes in this search, in this mystery; this is where their real passion lies. On a choreographic level, they have a common philosophy: they truly believe in the art of dance, in dance as a necessity. Therefore in their works and in their method there is always a certain tension. As they say: “when we enter the studio, we enter a holy place. We immerse ourselves in an absolutely creative atmosphere, in which you lose yourself and do not cease to find new things. Tirelessly searching is also our driving force.” Theirs is a quite explicit physical language – dance pure and simple.

Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich began working together in 2013. From the start they realized that their different origins and approaches complemented their needs and artistic ideas. For more than five years, the pair has been working all over the world in fields such as choreography, dance, teaching, production and the generation of works of art in collaboration with associated artists. The experience of their tours has led them to refine their approach in order to generate a universal language that can reach a large variety of cultures and audiences. Ansa and Bacovich have developed their own method of teaching, called the “metamorphosis method”, and they are the founders and directors of the Metamorphosis Dance company. The pair have worked in more than 30 countries and have choreographed over 20 dance pieces.

Iratxe Ansa was awarded the National Prize for Dance in 2020.
